Rigamajig
Rigamajig
You could call it a toy, a learning material, a playground -- Rigamajig is a large-scale building kit that sparks imagination, innovation, and collaboration. Cas designed the collection of wooden planks, wheels, pulleys, nuts, bolts, and rope to allow for hands-on free play and building without mastering tools or following instructions. With no right or wrong answers, children are free to imagine what they'd like to make and must cooperate and share resources with peers in order to bring their creations to life. Originally conceived as the Children's Workyard Kit, a pop-up playground for the High Line Park in NYC, the award-winning design continues to evolve and expand.
While Rigamajig can be found in hundreds of schools, play spaces, and children's museums across the globe, there is an ongoing struggle to get Rigamajig into the hands of kids, particularly in the U.S., because public schools are not equipped to buy or use this sort of tool. Cas and her team continue to search for ways to get Rigamajig into the places that need it most while developing teacher training and classroom materials that help incorporate Rigamajig into curriculums.
